''Outdoor Warning System''

Parker County ESD #9 has purchased an outdoor warning system with
sirens located in areas with the most outdoor activity. The locations are corner of Grindstone Rd. and Lazy Bend Rd., at Sugar Tree golf course maintenance barn, and the third at 2506 Dennis Rd. These sirens are intended to alert residents in case of emergency such as severe weather, and other hazardous conditions

.

Criteria for siren activation

Sirens will be activated under the following circumstances:
 The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm
Warning with destructive winds exceeding 70 MPH, or a Tornado
Warning for area in and around ESD 9 district.
 Trained storm spotters have reported a tornado or rotation in the District
or in neighboring jurisdictions that may affect the district.
 Hail measuring 2.5 inches or greater has been reported in a storm that is
approaching the district.
 Other Emergencies as directed by the office of Emergency Management
for Parker County, and or the Officer in charge of an incident that may
affect a large portion of the district population.

Have a plan

Have An Emergency Plan
Citizens should have a storm emergency plan in place and practice the plan
regularly. KnoWhat2Do website can help you develop an emergency plan.
A portable battery-operated radio or programmed weather alert radio should
be incorporated into the plan.
Please do not call 9-1-1, the Fire Department or Police department when you
hear the Outdoor Warning System unless you have an emergency. Instead,
take immediate shelter, and listen to a radio, local television, or weather radio
station for further information. Calls to these numbers asking for weather
details create the potential for true emergency call being delayed. During
severe weather, it is especially important for 9-1-1 lines to be available for
emergency response.
